Its a TV show that is similar to the Biggest Loser however its over the course of a year and instead of a competition among several contestants, each episode is about one (sometimes two) participants looking to lose an extreme amount of weight. What’s interesting about the show is that each loser is given a huge phase one goal, often more than a pound a day for the first 90 days. Every weight loss app on the android and iphone market caps weight loss at 2lbs a week – not 7-10lbs. It seems like the magic number for weight loss pace is 2lbs a week, but we all have seen shows like this one where the contestants are often shown losing 5, 10, even 20 lbs in a single week! Is it safe to lose that much weight in that short amount of time? I heard one person say “its safer than carrying that much fat on your body!” Maybe that’s true – but why is 2lbs a week the magic number then? If you want to lose 2lbs a week – you have to burn 1000 calories above your food intake per day. If I eat 2000 calories a day (most FDA charts suggest this is the correct amount of daily caloric intake), and I burn 3000 calories a day – then I will lose 2lbs a week. I don’t know if its safe to lose weight at a rate of a pound a day as is often the case in the first phase of Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition…
An 'Extreme Weight Loss' first: Chris kicks contestant out of program. For the first time in "Extreme Weight Loss" history, Chris Powell kicked a contestant out of his transformation program. 'Extreme Weight Loss' first. Chris started to question Christy's work ethic in phase two of the transformation process, when Christy hadn't called or texted for a month and ended up gaining weight instead of losing it. The personal trainer told Christy she needed to fight for herself but said she wasn't ready to work hard, commit, and was full of excuses. She was bullied her whole life, and even tried committing suicide by riding her bike into a truck, but it was actually the weight that saved her in that accident.

The Food and Drug Administration approved Belviq last year. The drug is recommended for people who are obese. At the three month mark, Howard has lost 31 pounds. He said, "Now I have the help I needed. Vig will be going around the country to teach doctors about Belviq. I am 48 years old, and my weight has been going up for the past three years. I went to the Scottsdale Weight Loss Center .
Zach Galifianakis weight loss was due to alcohol free diet. While Galifianakis didn't reveal specific diet or workout details of his weight loss regimen, he said giving up beer and other alcohol had a dramatic impact on his waistline. I stopped drinking and I just kind of put the weight off," he said. While weight loss is a great side effect of sobriety, Galifianakis, 45, admitted he had a problem with alcohol for many years. Galifianakis said he got angry after a guy driving a Jaguar cut him off when he was crossing the street. As he cut me off, I hit the car as hard as I could with my hand," Galifianakis recalled. Galifianakis made the decision then and there to stop drinking, calling the episode humiliating and frightening: Galifianakis, who prefers to keep a low profile despite his success, said he's disgusted with the way Hollywood constantly congratulates itself. Galifianakis said he enjoys acting, but has no interest in being a "celebrity," calling the circus side-show aspect of fame ridiculous.

ABC says agents and coaches have told him that the only thing standing between him and a professional contract is his weight. In the end, it’s Charita that makes it and accomplishes her goal with cheers from the audience. Charita Becomes a Zumba Instructor on the Show. He says that post was also followed up by personal emails to Roth and Powell, explaining his health problems, the $50,000 in hospital bills from the past year, and asking for help with it all, which he says were ignored. The only response he got was a cease and desist from show attorneys, which he posts a copy of on his blog. They were all threatening calls, and none of which was about helping me. One such email is from Chris Powell to the show’s participants encouraging them and outlining for them how to do a flush to help them lose up to an extra 30 pounds of water weight before their weigh ins. He also calls out that they never followed the diet described on the show. They did set up a ranch and several of the contestants moved their for several months because they weren’t going to make their numbers. It was in Arizona, and you didn’t see that on the show because they wanted to tell you that we were able to do it on our own at home in our real environments. I was recruited to be on this show, I never wrote a letter and chances are if you did its not going to be anwsered. I had lost almost 100lbs on my own before the show and in fact told them in the final interview room that I did not think this was my last chance, and that the decision to save my life was something I made long ago and it wasnt theirs to make. The show was only concerned with “getting the numbers” for their episode, not James’ life or habits or any of that. At what point do you say “Enough!” and back out, especially when you acknowledge that what you were doing was wrong? They all follow the same formula to me, and by that logic I’m pretty much over the idea of supporting one.
Robin Quivers Before and After the Master Cleanse. Robin Quivers doesn’t mind when people comment on her 70-lb. But more importantly, she says the regimen is responsible for erasing the joint pain and fatigue that had plagued her for more than a decade. “I’ve never felt this good about my body before,” declares Quivers, who likens her extreme dieting—she has fasted for 21 consecutive days on three occasions—to “a spiritual journey.” Says Quivers: “It’s just a completely different way to be.” The change has been evident to those who know her. “But this wasn’t about weight loss,” says Quivers, who traces her health problems to steroid-based medication that she took in 1989 to regulate her menstrual cycle, “I was really trying to regain my health, and that’s what it did.” It took a rock-bottom moment before Quivers would make a major change. And in despair about the way she looked and felt, she grudgingly attended a friend’s wedding. One month later Quivers came across her solution when magician David Blaine was a guest on Stern’s show and raved about the Master Cleanser. “Downing her first glass of lemonade,” she says, “I was like, ‘It doesn’t taste so bad!’” Still, “I didn’t expect to be able to go 24 hours without food.” But she did just that, and 24 hours stretched into 21 days. I was sleeping better.” All the while, she kept the fasting a secret from everyone but her longtime boyfriend, known to her fans as Mr. Having since completed three such fasts, Quivers says she has a renewed appreciation for food: “I was eating a salad for the first time and going, ‘Wow! “Sometimes my body says, ‘I want sugar,’ and I eat sugar,” she says. “This is my way of life now,” she says.
DENVER - Editor's note: ABC's Extreme Weight Loss is back for season four and this year participants will start their journey with a three-month boot camp at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC). Holly Wyatt, Medical Director at AHWC and Medical Director for the show, reflects on episode two featuring Kathie and Josh. Episode #2 of ABC Television’s Extreme Weight Loss series featured a co-dependent mother and son who became very “comfortable” living together as they both grew larger and larger over the years. Kathie, a single mother for 20 years started her transformation journey at 255 pounds and Josh her 21-year-old son weighed in at 345 lbs. Kathie and Josh both needed a big transformation and Extreme Weight Loss provided that opportunity. Josh had to move out from living with his mother and to confront his dad. Who come into the Wellness Clinic wanting to lose weight but not really wanting to change. They are quick to write down 50 or 100 pounds as their weight loss goal, but not so quick to make the changes needed to produce that amount of weight loss. Josh leaving the comfort of his mom’s home and moving to Arizona seemed like the logical choice. Thus, we witnessed his hesitancy to make change happen and ultimately his victory over the discomfort. The ability to realize that getting “uncomfortable” is a necessary part of a true change is the first major step in transforming your life during weight loss. It is so important that I tell participants in my State of Slim weight loss and wellness program on the very first night that if they want to truly transform their lives, they better be ready to be uncomfortable! It’s not an option - learn to recognize and cultivate the feeling. Embrace it and know it’s part of the transformation process. For Josh and Kathie the pain of change and transformation over this year produced totally new bodies and each found a totally new – and more satisfying – way of life.

Brian Flemming found the will to change his life in a drawing game. Flemming was addicted to alcohol, severely morbidly obese and full of self-pity when he met Jackie Eastham through a random match on Draw Something, the Pictionary-like mobile game. It was the spring of 2012. Eastham lived in England and was 20 years Flemming's senior. Eastham was the first person he was totally honest with - no one in his life knew about the drinking. And you're wasting your life," she said, remembering how she felt as the recipient of his drunken, maudlin messages. I'm trying to make the brightest future I can, and . It was the wake-up call Flemming needed. They progressed from Facebook to Skype video chats, where Eastham said she was initially shocked by his size. When he was finally comfortable to exercise outside, he only went when it was dark and the neighbors couldn't see him. Flemming is now down to 234 pounds, with about 30 pounds of excess skin around his waist.
Ty Ash wants to get down to 300 pounds to play pro. The contestants on the upcoming season of ABC’s “Extreme Weight Loss” have many reasons for wanting to lose weight, but 19-year-old Ty Ash’s is unique: The 480-pound baseball phenomenon wants to get down to 300 pounds to play professionally. ABC says agents and coaches have told him that the only thing standing between him and a professional contract is his weight. For His Weight NFL.com reports that his weight peaked at 448 pounds in 2011, but he is now listed at 375 . Ash, of Oklahoma City, is trying to get down to the same weight as the Cincinnatti Reds’ Jonathan Broxton, who appears to be the heaviest current baseball player at 300 pounds. He is also the heaviest contestant on this season’s “Extreme Weight Loss,” which also features a former pageant queen, a former gymnast and cheerleader, and the first little person ever to appear on the show.
He is an amazing home run hitter and I was so excited for his potential future in the big leagues. And even though his first weigh in was not exactly on the mark, he had a substantial weight loss. She suffered that pain without essentially alone and without the love and comfort from her very sweet parents. Hopefully you watched the show and know the outcome! I understand he was upset by the recruiter who had a criminal record and most likely was trying to con him…telling him he would get a fat contract. But, that didn’t take away the fact, that he is a damn good home run hitter and is too young to give up on his dream. Twice he had a 3-month invitation to work with Chris and his wife and baseball trainers in Arizona. I can’t know him or what he’s been through, but what he communicated (via program editing) was that he was after the big contract and not the work. IF he worked with Chris and his wife. What prompted Chris to investigate the agent or was it the show that did it and relayed to Chris? I sure hope Ty watches the show, realizes the huge mistake he made, and takes on his life! Ok I just watched the show and im going to tell you that from the door I knew Ty would leave. This is a kid that had his head filled up with a lot of half-truths and just for the sake of entertainment no one close to him had the balls to keep it real 100. He actually thought that he would just stand at the plate and hit homers and not run? Sure would love to see where Ty is in a year from now, after watching his behavior on the show and reflecting, maybe he will come to his senses.
It was running from his demons that led him here and unfortunately that’s the only running he’s used. Chris figures she can lose about 85 of those and he’s volunteered to help her for the next three months. And that’s why at the end of her 90 days – she didn’t meet her goal. Charita was supposed to lose 85 pounds and what she lost was 75. The only difference is that now he’s going to have to go out and get it on his own. So what was his motivation for losing the weight? The only downside was that she again missed out on her goal weight. And with much regret the doctor told her that she needed to lose a few more before he was prepared to do surgery. When she gets to that weight then and only then will the doctor agree to remove her extra skin. At the end of the show, Charita was left alone on that stage and she stood proudly as she was weighed.

Holly Wyatt, Medical Director at AHWC and Medical Director for the show, reflects on episode six featuring David, a man still struggling with the deaths of two of his siblings more than a decade ago. Along the way he found the strength to forgive himself and that forgiveness gave him the freedom to live his life to its fullest. His guilt robbed him of the freedom to experience happiness and fulfillment in his life. In this episode, we appreciate the power of letting go of the past, forgiving oneself, and most importantly believing that you deserve happiness. Unless he could deal with that and learn to feel he deserved a change, he could not dig deep and do the hard work needed to transform his life. David let go of his emotional burden and guilt at the top of the waterfall. At the finale of his transformation, after finally forgiving himself, David proposed to his girlfriend, Kayla. He shed the emotional guilt and the physical weight, and finally realized he was worth more than he ever thought. Forgiving yourself, choosing to live a guilt free life, believing you deserve success, that you deserve to live life to the max are critical steps in any transformation. We celebrate that we all have the opportunity to live in a country that’s free – so, don’t put limits on your own personal freedom to live a fulfilled life. David is now free to be his best self and you can be your best self, too.
