Recumbent Bike Vs. Treadmill for Weight Loss

The treadmill intrinsically burns more calories than a recumbent bike. In a situation in which your primary goal is weight loss, you will want to focus on a machine that will incorporate the most muscle groups into your workout. This would mean that the treadmill would be the more effective calorie burner, but there are other variables to be considered. The truth is that you can burn an equal number of calories on either the recumbent bike or treadmill. Because the treadmill recruits more muscle groups, it will burn calories at a higher rate at the same level of exertion. Pozarnksy revealed that the recumbent bike does not recruit, to a significant degree, the postural muscles for the sake of stability. The treadmill will burn more calories in an equal amount of time. Recumbent Bike Weight Loss. Don’t Toss Out the Recumbent. Just because the treadmill is a more efficient calorie burner than the recumbent bike on an even exertion plane doesn’t mean you can’t experience an effective weight-loss workout on the recumbent bike. The recumbent bike does have its benefits. more...

Indoor Cycle Trainer vs. Recumbent Bike Weight Loss

You walk into the gym knowing that weight loss is your goal and cardiovascular exercise is therefore necessary. Upon entering the cardiovascular zone, you're suddenly conflicted between choosing the recumbent bike or the upright cycle trainer. The recumbent bike was originally designed for gym-goers looking for a form of cardiovascular exercise that wouldn't aggravate existing injuries. For example, those suffering from back pain or balance issues may find the recumbent bike appropriate for their cardiovascular needs because it removes the element of core stabilization. In addition, those who suffer from knee injuries may find that the reclining position of the recumbent bike keeps their knees behind their feet and therefore decreases overall pressure on their joints. The indoor cycle trainer mimics the form and function of a tradition outdoor bike. Since the bike applies a certain amount of added effort, the upright bike is not only great for cardiovascular training; it can also help to develop core strength and muscle tone. What makes the indoor cycle trainer more effective is its intensity-specific design, which forces the user to work harder as the workload increases and, even if the two machines offer similar cardiovascular benefits, the use of additional muscle groups on the upright bike would ultimately result in greater long-term results. Since no conclusive studies have been made regarding cardiovascular results at higher intensities, both the recumbent bike and the indoor cycle trainer are efficient tools for weight loss. more...

Recumbent bicycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the right equipment and design, recumbent bikes can be used for riding unpaved roads and offroad, just as with conventional mountain bikes. These typically have two 20" wheels or a 26" wheel at the rear and 20" wheel at the front. Just as with upright bicycles , recumbents are built and marketed with more than one seat, thus combining the advantages of recumbents with those of tandem bicycles . There are also hybrid recumbent designs such as the Hase Pino Allround that utilize a recumbent stoker in the front, and an upright pilot in the rear. The center of gravity is lower and in the case of long-wheelbase recumbents further back than with upright bicycles. The disadvantages in balance and maneuverability (see those) make starting more difficult on recumbent bicycles. On a traditional bicycle, the rider can stand on the pedals and pull against the handlebars, although on a recumbent the rider can push against the seat. Recumbent designs of both prone and supine varieties can be traced back to the earliest days of the bicycle. How to Lose Weight Using an Exercise Bike for Beginners

Upright bikes are almost identical to regular bikes - expect for the fact that they're stationary. You can set the resistance level on most exercise bikes. It is important that you do not set the resistance too high when you are first starting out. If you are in continual pain, it is a sign that your resistance is set too high for your fitness level. The pedal action and resistance in a spin class will differ from what a beginner would experience with a regular stationary bike. Spin classes are usually quite intense so you may wish to ride a regular stationary bike for some time and work up to joining a spin class. Spin bikes have a more narrow seat, are more adjustable, and provide a wider range of resistance. You will find that the pedals are smoother to operate on a spin bike than on a regular bike. more...

Recumbent Bike vs Upright Bike Benefits Infographic

The exercise bikes featured in the infographic are the Life Span R 3i Recumbent Bike and the Life Span C 3i Upright Bike . Recumbent bikes are easier on the lower back (lumbar spine) due to the way that you sit in the bike. While an upright bike has you hunched over the handlebars, a recumbent bike encourages better spinal posture. The fact that the seat is larger on a recumbent bike tends to be one of the most enticing features. Due to the low impact the recumbent bike reduces the risk of pain and can build strength. If your back and hips are affected by rheumatoid arthritis, a recumbent bike may be easier to use due to the reclining position with your weight spread over your back and buttocks. An upright bike gives you a more consistent workout when relating to outdoor riding, since the upright places the rider in a similar body position. The upright bike works the abdominal muscles since you are keeping the body upright and supporting your workout. Since you are in a reclined position on a recumbent bike there is little to no use of the abdominal muscles. There is also more of an upper body arm workout since you are engaging the biceps, triceps, and shoulders in the upright position. Are you concerned about maximizing calories and weight loss, when deciding between a recumbent bike or an upright bike? Recumbent Bike Workout Plan to Lose Weight

In fact, these machines are also quite suited to obese people who tend to be intimidated by the seats on upright bikes, and tend to come with a higher maximum user capacity, as is the case with the Exerpeutic 900 XL (300 pounds). For better results trainers often recommend to vary the speed and intensity of your cycling motions during the same workout. It’s also recommended to go for machines with heavier flywheels: these require more effort and engage all major muscle groups of your body into the workout, which, in return, allows you to burn more calories per training session. Other than weight loss, this kind of exercise bike can also be used to improve cardiovascular and lung capacities while increasing your metabolism, hence allowing you to burn fat even when you’re not actually working out. However, sportsmen and trainers recommend varying the intensity of your workout in order to benefit the most from the machine. For example, in a 30-minute workout, you can indulge in five minutes on maximum intensity, ten minutes on moderate intensity, five minutes on maximum again and the remaining ten minutes on fairly low resistance to allow your muscles to cool down. more...

Recumbent Exercise Bike - GLR - 4

Cycling tones your thighs, shreds body fat and gets you super fit! The recumbent cycling position keeps your head and neck in correct alignment. This promotes good posture and de-stresses the lower back. Is a recumbent bike or a stationary bike more effective

Is a recumbent bike or a stationary bike more effective for fat loss? Topics Fitness Exercise Equipment Is a recumbent bike or a stationary bike more effective for fat loss? I like the stationary bike for weight loss over the recumbent bike. With the stationary bike you have to use more postural muscles to perform your workout. With the recumbent bike you are going to use fewer muscles in your back and hips to stabilize your larger leg muscle doing the work.  When you consider the recumbent and the stationary bike they are very similar with the exception of the fact that the stationary is a little more demanding on the core musculature. The upright and recumbent bike can burn fat but at a lower pace than many other things. The only difference between the stationary bike and the recumbent bike is that one has the seat like a chair to protect your back. If you have back problems and you wish to start or continue a cardio program by using a machine then the recumbent bike is the way to go. A recumbent bike is a piece of cardio equipment for individuals with low-back issues or other physical limitations that prevent the use of an upright bike and is good for a warm-up or cool-down. Indoor Cycle Trainer Vs. Recumbent Bike Weight Loss

Recumbent Bike Weight Loss. Ultimately, the most effective indoor cycle for weight loss is the one that best suits your body. The best cycle for weight loss is one that you will actually peddle, rather than one that will end up rusting untouched in your garage. The amount of calories you burn per hour indoor cycling depends mainly on peddling resistance and the speed at which you peddle. Because a recumbent bike supports your back rather than engaging your core muscles, when peddling on a recumbent bike, you may burn fewer calories than you would on an upright bike at the same speed and resistance. The leg position on recumbent models, though, may give a better workout for your thigh and hip muscles than an upright model. If you already own a bicycle and enjoy peddling outdoors, an indoor cycle trainer is an obvious choice for days when outdoor peddling is not an option. The down side of an indoor cycle trainer is that many people find the narrow seat and bent-over upper body positioning uncomfortable, which may limit peddling time. Both recumbent bikes and indoor cycling trainers are equally effective for weight loss, as long as you can work out comfortably on them for the recommended amount of time. more...

Does a recumbent bike really help with weight loss

It's great that you are balancing out between the two machines. You also get a better workout on your legs. Your leg muscles are the largest muscle groups in your body, they will be doing the work of burning up those *reserves/deposits, that you don't want to have. If you prefer to get a better sweat out of your bike routines, you should climb more hills. As one who has ridden thousands of miles on bicycles, I can tell you that I prefer other than recumbents, for the simple reason that, if you use toe clips or a similar device, and you truly ride for exercise, that way will seriously trim your stomach down from top to bottom, whereas I don't see that with a recumbent. 30 Days of Fat Loss - - Day #24 : Recumbent Bike Intervals

The recumbent bike (as opposed to the upright bike) has the exerciser in a seated position with the legs forward. The beauty of using the recumbent bike is that it helps burn fat all over, while also eliciting a localized burn in the legs, attacking both the glute-hamstring tie-in and the lower part of the quad near the knee (referred to as the “tear drop” and the “sweep”).
