My own raw food/weight loss story is probably the best way I can illustrate what’s possible (and isn’t) with raw foods. As mentioned, in 1993 I found out about raw foods for the first time, and seeing as I still had some weight to lose, the promise of creating or “unveiling” my perfect body was of course way too alluring not to give it a shot. Yet, within a year or three, despite still eating predominantly, or even all raw foods, my weight had started coming back on and I was a rather rotund raw foodist to say the least! Yes, it was still mostly raw foods, but it wasn’t raw and living foods. However, as I was already eating mostly or all raw foods, and yet was still eating when I wasn’t hungry, what was that all about? And I ate when I wasn’t hungry, which meant that I was overriding the messages from my body (which was desperately trying to help me regain balance), which meant that I was not only out of alignment in my everyday life, but that I was now ignoring my body and just eating raw anyway, but in this chapter mostly unconsciously. So the whole raw experience for me had started off so beautifully in a perfect and wonderful setting (i.e. Having been through the raw food wringer I feel I really have got a handle on what stops people losing weight despite what foods they are eating, and largely they are emotional. With my lifestyle of eating Raw now, I never feel deprived because everything I eat completely satisfies me, and if I want more, I can have it, because it's good for me. Warm your soup or sauce a little on the stove, but only to a temperature that you can still put your finger in it and keep it there. This is the final postmortem of my 30 day trial of the low-fat raw food diet, which I conducted from January 1 to January 30, 2008. For example, on the first day of the trial I ate 8-1/2 pounds of food, and I was 2.8 pounds lighter on the scale the next morning. The cravings for cooked food on this diet were strong some days and virtually nonexistent on other days. For the first half of the trial, I averaged 12.2% of calories from fat. For the second half of the trial, I averaged 8.7% of calories from fat. My average body temperature during the first week of the trial was 98.5°. During the second week of the trial, it was 98.2°. My average blood pressure reading for the first 5 days of the trial was 131/76. For the last 5 days of the trial, it was 117/73. It was embarrassing and discouraging to say the least. I followed the diet religiously for 6 months and loosely for about a year. I also learned about the importance of food combining and probiotics.
