Although we originally titled the story “11 months and 76 pounds ago…” a more appropriate title would be “11 months and 136 pounds ago.” You see 136 pounds is the total amount of weight that my wife, Karen, and myself have lost as of today 3-12-2002. We went through our refrigerator and kitchen and discarded everything that wasn’t allowed on the induction phase of the plan. But the scale was going in the right direction for both of us. Atkins Fat Fast Really Is As Awesome As I Thought

The fat fast catapults you into deep ketosis, with its triple benefit of appetite suppression, metabolic advantage, and protection of muscle mass. I’ve covered the research regarding the fat fast in a previous article, and wrote about my first experience with it last autumn. Di Bauer said she hates fat fasting , but I’m really not finding it that onerous, and certainly I find it easy considering the weight loss it is causing. Despite the hype, I lost weight at about half the speed I am on the fat fast. Further, my fat fast allows me twice the calories, and requires no injections. They simply lost fat most rapidly on the fat fast. Similarly, I’ve had queries as to whether it’s safe to fat fast beyond the 3-4 days recommended by Dr. That said, the fat fast is notably short on protein – I’m eating about 30 grams per day. The lower fat percentage means I have to eat extra-high-fat during the rest of the day to keep my percentage up, but I love eggs, love big breakfasts, and like getting most of my protein early in the day. This has a higher fat percentage than the fat fast Alfredo I mentioned in the previous article. I have a beautiful, ripe avocado in the house, so I think I’ll have half an avocado, sliced, with a teaspoon of olive oil and a half teaspoon lime juice, plus S&P, for my next “feeding.”  202 calories, 82% fat. I’ve calculated that two jalapeno peppers, seeded and stuffed with a total of 1 ½ ounces of cream cheese, then each wrapped in a strip of bacon and broiled or grilled till the bacon is done, will have 230 calories, 82% fat. That fat fasting is an extremely fast way to lose fat with minimal muscle loss. But the most important message – hardly new, but one that needs hammering home over and over again – is that fat is not the enemy. Reason for the change in lifestyle: I was 351 lbs and had to do something or I was going to be facing serious health consequences. I was basically a recluse who did nothing but sit home and binge, and that was not the life I wanted for myself. The journey and success: On 1/30/07 I decided to get serious again. We were about to move into a new house and it was a new year, so I had the “new beginnings” mindset. When I was successful on Atkins in 2000-2001, I didn’t cheat once in a year (then fell head first into a huge binge and eventually gained all my weight back +50 friends – 200 lbs), so I told myself that this time I would not deny myself when I wanted to eat off plan. I still managed to lose really well and by the summer of 2008 I was in the 195’ish range and thrilled to be there. So that combined with starting fertility treatments and the hormones that went with that kept me at that weight for several months. I remember weighing 186, and wasn’t unhappy about that weight (it’s all relative), but I didn’t want a lecture at my next appointment so I got serious again (after all of the Easter candy was gone, of course). He was thrilled, lowered the strength of my meds, and told me I only needed to lose 5 more pounds. I like the creamy dressings like ranch and blue cheese. Pick a plan that you can stay on, know it inside out, and stick with it. Accept that the way you eat to lose the weight is the way you’re going to have to eat to maintain your loss. Share your Fat Fast success stories please. Start Date: April 10, 2011. Start Date: 12/26/2012. Did a 5 day one about two weeks ago. One day I bumped up to about 1600 calories and the weight loss stalled. The best I could manage was 86% one day. WOE: Lotsa veggies and LC. I admit though, i was early on in my Atkins woe, having coming off the "recommende" low fat high carb regime of 25 years or so. I feel great and have lost a bunch of weight. Start Date: April 2012. And I do lose weight, though I put some of it back on in subsequent days. So, it shows me that my weight-loss sweet spot is somewhere between fat fast and what I do the rest of the time. Clearly being looked after in the food department, mixed with busy work life, 4 children (5 now) and generally being lazy; all contributed their fair share to gaining 50kg+. So while driving around I was listening to my weekly fix of computer security podcast, and the show host discussed how he had achieved great results on a 'very low carb' type of diet. After seeing the results we did, we would have been mad to have thrown in the towel. I continued to lose weight and hit 46kg lost after 18 months. I still have a ways to go - currently around 20% BF and hoping to get to around 15%. I'm loving the varied foods we get exposed to, and we certainly never paid any attention to them when adhering to a typical WOE. I bought a power cage, barbell and weights and did a good 3 months of weight lifting at the start of 2013, and I was seeing great strength improvements, but I decided to put it on hold as I was having trouble measuring my weight loss results with any muscle gains I was seeing. At present I'm just loving my new-found energy and expend as much of it as I can with the kids. At the 12 and 18 month marks, I got blood workups done and was super-stoked with the results. Overall I'd have to say I've seen great improvements in under two years, and speaking about my methods and personal achievements with my friends seemed to encourage them to look at their bodies and lives and do something about what they weren't happy with. more...

I have gone down about 5 inches but i gave up the scale as it has always been a good tool bad tool for me (mostly bad.) So you are strictly Atkins with no carbs at all? I've had a few hiccups the last 2 weekends and that in itself probably pushed back any weight loss. I had maintained a 70 lb wt loss for almost 3 years and then- well I'm not sure exactly what happened but I fell off the wagon and did not climb back on until I was back at my original start wt. But everyone one here has had a starting point and if you are successful for a day, a week, a month- than you are more successful than you had been. I haven't had the energy but I just read a post that said the reason for low energy is not eating enough. I did it for the full 90 days and the transformation was so awesome! Lol Got a meatloaf in the oven and it smells pretty good. Right now that is the best exercise regime for me bc this extra weight hurts my knees. I also have a tendency to fast most of Saturday, but I still do a shake and coffee in the morning. I know I lost 7 pounds a week for the first 3 weeks, but after that all I know is I lost 34 pounds by four months. I struggled with morning workouts and just getting thru the day. more...

If you stick to vegetables you can have a decent amount of vegetables and still be in ketosis.
