How I Lost 20 Pounds in 2 Months On a

Before I get into the “how I did it” meat of this post, let’s talk first about why I don’t believe in restricting carbs or fat when you are trying to lose weight. Let’s face it, carbs and fat are the FUN things to eat! Eating meat with no potatoes and no bread makes me not want to eat! And I say more power to you! For the past couple months, I’ve been eating anywhere from 35-45% carbs and 40-50% fat (it varies because I don’t TRY to eat that much; I just eat what I want). I’d like to cut down on the wine and get it down to 1 1/2 to 2 glasses. This has been the number one thing that has helped me lose weight and get in shape. Get more exercise, in addition to the steps, as much as you can. Then all you have to do is enter what you eat each day and stay below your desired level. All you have to do is stand on the scale in the morning and it will track your weight and body fat — it syncs automatically with your Fit Bit dashboard on the website. (You don’t need to use the Aria scale — you can just enter your weight manually. more...

Is Low - Carb Really King of Weight Loss? - The Huffington Post

If you happen to keep up with nutrition news, you've most likely come across numerous headlines this week that, once again, proclaim low-carb the king of weight loss diets. The low-carb vs. The 150 racially-diverse participants, all of whom were obese, were randomly divided into two groups: a low-carb group and a low-fat group. Participants following the low-carb diet saw significant decreases in weight loss, body fat, and certain markers associated with cardiovascular risk compared to those on the low-fat diet. The low-carb diets weren't nearly as low-carb as you think. Participants in the low-carb group ate significantly more protein. Thus, it's impossible to tell whether the greater fat loss in the low-carb group was due to cutting carbs, eating more protein, or some other factor that wasn't accounted for. The trial didn't use the best method for measuring fat loss. In this case, waist circumference would likely have been the next best measurement of fat loss, however the differences between the two groups in this area were negligible. The low-carb group had smaller waists than the low-fat group for the first half of the study however, both groups had similar decreases in waist circumference at the conclusion of the trial. Based on waist circumference measurements, it's hard to support the claim that low-carb diets are superior for long-term fat loss. As it turns out, the study doesn't actually prove that low-carb diets lead to greater weight loss compared to low-fat diets. On the upside, the results from this study hint that lower carb intake paired with higher protein consumption may lead to greater weight loss over time - which seems infinitely more sustainable (and enjoyable) for most than a true low- or no-carb lifestyle. more...

Atkins diet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Atkins diet leads to 0.1% to 2.9% more weight loss at one year than a control group. A 2005 study by Beisswenger and colleagues compared levels of the glycotoxin methylglyoxal (MG) before and after starting the Atkins Diet. A balanced meal according to the Atkins Diet. The initial stage of the Atkins Diet is referred to as the induction phase and is considered a ketogenic diet. This phase of the Atkins' diet lasts until weight is within 10 pounds (4.5 kg) of the target weight. The Atkins Nutritional Approach gained widespread popularity in 2003 and 2004. The Atkins Diet was less expensive than the Jenny Craig diet and more expensive than Weight Watchers . Low - carbohydrate diet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gary Taubes has argued that low-carbohydrate diets are closer to the ancestral diet of humans before the origin of agriculture , and humans are genetically adapted to diets low in carbohydrate. The "Stillman diet" is a high-protein , low-carbohydrate, and low-fat diet . [19] Other low-carbohydrate diets in the 1960s included the Air Force diet [20] and the drinking man’s diet. [27] During the late 1990s and early 2000s, low-carbohydrate diets became some of the most popular diets in the US. [7] [36] [37] [38] Other low-carb diets, such as the Paleo Diet, focus on the removal of certain foods from the diet, such as sugar and grain. The body of research underpinning low-carbohydrate diets has grown significantly in the decades of the 1990s and 2000s. [59] In reality, low-carbohydrate diets can also be low-GL diets (and vice versa) depending on the carbohydrates in a particular diet. At the heart of the debate about most low-carbohydrate diets are fundamental questions about what is a 'normal' diet and how the human body is supposed to operate. Most advocates of low-carbohydrate diets, such as the Atkins diet, argue that the human body is adapted to function primarily in ketosis. The review included both extreme low carbohydrate diets high in both protein and fat, as well as less extreme low carbohydrate diets that are high in protein but with recommended intakes of fat. Low-carbohydrate diets became a major weight loss and health maintenance trend during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The researchers concluded that low-carbohydrate, Mediterranean, low-glycemic index, and high-protein diets are effective in improving markers of risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The major low-carbohydrate diet guides generally recommend multivitamin and mineral supplements as part of the diet regimen, which may lead some to believe these diets are nutritionally deficient. A common argument in favor of high-carbohydrate diets is that most carbohydrates break down readily into glucose in the bloodstream, and therefore the body does not have to work as hard to get its energy in a high-carbohydrate diet as a low-carbohydrate diet. more...

How much did you lose in first 2

How much did you lose in first 2 months (8 weeks)? I was curious, how much did you guys lose in the first 2 months? Lastly, how long did it take you guys to go into ketosis, and after that did you notice your weight loss increase? I normally feel a little off the first few days of Stillmans. Those first 2-3 days are also the hardest to get through because we feel so crappy. I can assure you, and the others will agree, that this passes, and by day 4 and 5, your appetite and cravings will be minimal, and you'll get your energy back. If you feel nauseous, just eat a little more meat, or have an egg. Im guessing it takes me 2-3 days for ketosis, cause thats about the time when I feel like myself again! If you get a week under your belt you'll think your eyes are playin tricks on you when you look at the scale! If you can commit to the first few days, you will be golden. The worst thing we can do to ourselves is get through those days and then cheat. You can lose this weight in time for your event, but any bite off plan will set you back a week. I want you to succeed and I know you can. Keep checkin in and you will be amazed at your results! more...

Low - Fat Diet Tops Low - Carb in Long Run

Researchers found obese people who followed a low-fat diet may be more likely to keep the weight off three years later after starting the diet than those who followed a low-carbohydrate diet. After six months on the diets, the group on the low-carb diet experienced the greatest weight loss, but by 12 months there was no significant difference in weight loss between the two groups. Three years after the study began and two years after the diets ended, researchers followed up with 40 people in the low-carb diet group and 48 in the low-fat diet group. They found people in the low-carb diet group weighed an average of 4.9 pounds less than before they started dieting while those in the low-fat diet group weighed an average of 9.5 pounds less than they did at the start of the study. Researchers say while both diets appear to offer weight loss benefits, the pattern of weight change was different between the low-carb and low-fat diet groups. more...

Low - Carb May Trump Low - Fat in Diet Wars - ABC News

When it comes to choosing the best diet for weight loss and a healthy heart, low-carb may beat low-fat, a new study found. In the NIH-funded study, Bazzano and her colleagues followed 73 people on a low-fat diet and 75 people on a low-carbohydrate diet for one year. At 12 months, those on the low-carb diet had lost nearly eight pounds more than those on the low-fat diet. Specifically, he pointed out that with a low-fat diet, there are more distinctions that need to be made between the types of fat consumed, whereas in a low-carbohydrate diet, you largely eliminate that food group. Lead study author Bazzano's impression, on the other hand, was that a low-carbohydrate diet may be harder to stick to. "A low carbohydrate diet may be better for a jumpstart," Ayoob said, pointing out that most weight loss occurred in the first three months. Clearly, when most people start a diet, they have one thing on their mind - losing the weight. A few of us might also consider the effects that a diet has on our heart health and general wellness. What this study shows us is that choosing the right diet may help you kill two birds with one stone. As always, in addition to tipping the scale, maintaining a healthy lifestyle with exercise and a diet that can be followed long-term is still key to protecting our hearts. more...

Low Carb High Fat Slow Cooker Recipes

It’s a method that genuinely works in losing weight but the questions are “how will you know the recipes of low carb and does the recipe taste good or is it expensive?” These are the questions you will find addressed in this book. In this book you will find easy and affordable recipes that not only taste good but are guaranteed to help in weight loss. It was easy to find what I needed for the occasion, since the recipes were grouped into breakfast, lunch and dinner. The creamy mushroom soup with bacon topping was just fabulous. I tweaked the servings a little and made it for just the four of my family members, but I just wish I had gone along with the original recipe and made it for six servings instead. The original recipe servings were for 4 only, but I had double that number of guests. So for me these servings and time to cook details indicated with each recipe in the book are a life saver. And of course, one of my favorites, the salsa chicken with gooey mozzarella. It was just incredibly easy and the final result was also incredibly delightful. The directions are so easy to follow and I've never gone wrong with them. more...

Feb 19, My goal : Low Carb Vegan . . . HOW? - Vegan Coach

Hi - for medical reasons I need to be on a low carb diet, and since I've done that instead of vegan, I've lost 60 pounds and have 100 pounds to go. What I really want to do is continue being vegan, but how do I do that? So my question is - where are the vegan low-carb recipes? As to your question about low-carb vegan, admittedly most of the foods that support a healthy vegan diet are composed of carbs. While you CAN do low-carb vegan using ingredients like veggie burgers, vegetarian meats and other protein-rich overly-processed convenience foods, they're not always the healthiest route to go. I am not saying to eliminate whole grains because they provide the energy we need, but simply eat less of them. The Vegan Food Pyramid recommends 6-11 servings of whole grains per day, but there is some leeway there. So I recommend you stay on the lower end of this (say, between 3 and 6 servings/day which is ideal for those who want to lose weight in a healthy and balanced way ). more...

Eating For Weight Loss : The Delicious Low Carb Recipes I

I'm not really sure what program this book is for, but it ain't for Atkins unless you're in phases 3 and 4. Some recipes aren't for Atkins followers regardless of phase. I've certainly never seen any Atkins cookbook not state which phase each recipe could be used for. Which ones are only suitable for phase 4 or risk gaining back weight? This is not an Atkins cookbook. If you can't get it for free, buy a cookbook from a real Atkins cook/chef. Thank you for your feedback. more...

Low Carb, No Carb; No Weight Loss

I am also in the same boat as you, and I know how hard it can be to lose the weight :( Just keep up with what you are doing. Even not talking carbs, low carbs, simply if you're not eating enough for the level of activity you won't lose weight - and the harder you work out, the more calories you need to lose weight. And you have to get enough of everything, enough carbs (even if you're not adding starches or fruit), enough protein, enough fat - everything in the right balance. Your body will finally realize it can let go of the weight, and weight loss WILL resume if you don't give up. Oh, and the calories is a good point - in theory you don't have to count calories with Atkins, but I found I was pretty much getting around 1200 calories and couldn't lose weight with that. I don't think this is the absolute equation, because some calories (ie processed foods) have a different effect on your body than others, but if you are eating 2000 calories per day and expending only 1500, you are going to gain weight. You need fiber and with extremely low carb diets, it's hard to get the fiber your body needs daily. As others have said, for sustainable weight loss and a healthy life, the Atkins diet is not really feasible. If you're eating on the low end, then your body is cutting back on everything it can, and when you eat more it's going to stay for longer. I am not sure you are going about the weight loss the right way. more...

Let me hear your low - carb stories! - Straight Dope Message

You get to the point where food seeems overwhelmingly rich and you just don't care for it. I've lost 11 lbs in two weeks and I'm doing the combo low calorie/low carb. When I was on the diet I was making good money and living with my parents. I used Atkins to change my way of eating and after losing the weight successfully maintained with a maintenance version of Atkins for several years. The sad part is I know it's Atkins for me, it works and I'm happy eating that diet but for me to get back to a healthy weight is going to take some real work and I haven't quite made the mental leap that will enable me to get there. I made the switch to eating this way purely for other health reasons, and was really concerned that I would lose weight doing so. The last apple I ate was last Friday, and it shot my BG up to over 250, and that was with fast-acting insulin. The weight is coming off, and that makes me happy. I will sing Atkins praises because it's a great, healthy way of eating as long as you take it seriously and don't base your diet on the misguided assumption that it's a "all you can eat meat and cheese diet". Not really doing Atkins because I'm not following the book and I don't plan to reintroduce carbs. So I'm just hitting the gym with regularity for now and losing slooooowly. It's restrictive right now, but I'm hopeful that if I follow Atkins properly, I will be able to establish the number of carbs I can eat and maintain a healthy weight. more...

First Month Weight Loss on a Low - Carb Diet

This is the first of three or four articles regarding weight loss on a low-carb diet, and this one will focus on the first month. How Is the Low-Carb Weight Loss Experience Different? Because of this, people who respond well to low-carb diets often talk about feeling "normal around food", and not having the compulsions to eat that they usually do, once they adjust to eating a reduced-carbohydrate diet. The First Week. In the normal course of a regular diet with stable weight, the amount of glycogen fluctuates only a little, but during weight loss, and especially weight loss from low-carb diets, the amount of glycogen is reduced, and with it, the water. This reduction in glycogen accounts for the quick drop of a few pounds that first week. While everyone on a weight loss diet loses some "water weight" this way at first, it is more pronounced on a low-carb diet . The loss of water weight in the first week has led some critics of low-carb diets to declare that all the weight lost on a low-carb diet is water. This is where the real fat loss will start in most people who respond well to low-carb diets. Sometime in the second half of the first month your body will probably settle into a pattern of weight loss. Most of the time people choose to weigh first thing in that morning, before beginning to eat and drink, because this is the best basis for comparison. more...

I just also wanted to wish you good luck Jimmie in finding something that would jumpstart the weight loss again. The only thing that stands out from your recent menu is that you are only eating a couple of times a day. Thank you for that, and good luck. I know that this is not what Atkins says (and I love him), but just experiment to see what works for you. Just wanted to throw that out there to say I think it’s OK that you had a gain this winter, and also fine to change up what you eat to follow the natural cycles of the body etc… Do Not Do an IF you will loose the muscle that you gained and will slow down your metabolism. And muscle is less bulky than fat for the same amount of weight, so your body will be smaller and leaner. Avoid the tempatation to eat less, thinking that this will boost your efforts and speed up the process. This night-time eating will trigger the release of insulin, which will cause your body to make and STORE fat while you sleep. Exeercise will boost your metabolism and burn fat. If you have been exercising, and have hit a plateau, perhaps your body is signalling for you to change your routine. If you are in active ketosis, you need to drink more water to flush the ketones out of your system. Low carb diet

Unfortunately, however your body also attacks your muscles before it attacks your fat cells, but there is a way to divert this, and have your body directly attack your fat cells for the energy, and cause you to shed pounds daily, and literally watch the weight fall off. This is an extreme diet, and is not recommended for the feint of heart. The first thing you're going to want to do is prepare yourself by picking a date, telling yourself that you are going to start this diet, on that date and DO NOT under any circumstances move the date further back, you will subconsciously tell your body that you are not ready for such an extreme diet, and you will fail. If you can keep this step up for two weeks, and not cave into any junk food, this will now become programmed into your body, and into your brain which will now allow you to not go back to the old way of eating carbohydrate loaded goodies or fattening foods. This will also set you up for when you are done with the this strict diet, to allow your body to make natural and healthy decisions from this point on, trust me, you really won't miss those Funions or Lays potato chips which you used to love so much. How you do this, is on you, but the best way I find, is figure out why you eat when you eat? Water is extremely beneficial for you, and it will help clear the toxins out of your body. The idea behind this diet in particular is to limit yourself, and limit your calorie intake and your carbohydrate intake. By doing so, you will shrink the size of your stomach because your meal portions will be smaller due to the smaller calories and carb allowances. Low carb foods you can allow yourself to eat; (Just remember to keep it between 10-20 carbs per day, and it will be hard for the first few days) Cheese sticks are a good way to keep your metabolism going throughout the day, you can keep a few of these at work or at home, and just quickly grab and snack.) Foods are tempting, but keep away from the bad ones and you will drop weight like there is no tomorrow. more...

How to Lose 20 lbs. of Fat in 30 Days

Have fun and thanks for adding to the conversation! I’m going to do this for one next week and let you know the effects of just one week! Hey, I have a son that’s 11 years and is the same weight as you. Mix a small handful of berries through that and it should keep you good for the morning. And you are trying to look after your health so good for you! But just try for the 2 and 5. I have lost 23 lbs and can not get past the 23 lbs. Like an example, if you take in 1,050 to 1,200 calories a day, and then exercise for 1hr/day, then you could lose 5 pounds in the 1 week or 2nd week, or more if your weight is more than 250 pounds. If any of you are like me, i feel like i have tried everything, and i am ready to get the body that i know i can have. If you can’t lose weight and you’re “watching” what you eat, the most obvious reason for your condition is that you’re reactive to certain foods. This is not the time to worry about being fat as long as you are eating healthy foods/nutrients packed and not fried/junk food. Please help each other if you can, and thanks for the discussion! Thanks again for the article, and I look forward to any comments you might have. I eat like this all the time and have for 7 years. Thanyou for the good info and pictures in your article. more...

How Much Will You Lose in Month on a Low Carb Weight Loss

Though many individuals participated in more than one monthly challenge the data was only analyzed on a per month basis. Experienced dieters are individuals who had been on the diet for at least one month at the time that the monthly challenge began. For example, a person who began their diet on November 28, 2002 would be considered experienced in the January challenge which ran from 1/1/03 to 1/31/03. Newbie dieters are people who had been on the diet a month or less when the challenge began. A person who began their diet on December 1, 2002 would be considered a "newbie" for the January 2003 challenge. The data in both groups was then further broken down by the starting weight of the participant at the beginning of the challenge month. How much was the median weight loss? The median weight loss for all groups of experienced dieters fell between 2.25 and 7.25 lbs with the median weight of each subgroup rising as the starting weight of the dieters in the group increased. The median weight loss for the entire group of experienced dieters was 4 lbs per month. The median weight loss for all dieters who had been on the diet less than a month at the start of the diet month was only slighlty higher at 6 pounds. They experienced no weight loss for the month-in every subgroup reporting except among experienced dieters weighing over 300 lbs at the start of the month. A realistic monthly weight loss goal for the low carb dieter who has been dieting for more than two weeks would appear to lie between 2 and 6 lbs, with heavier dieters losing a bit more than thinner ones. more...

Having learned the basics behind our low-carb weight loss plan in Phase 1 (induction) , you are now ready to begin enjoying the versatility that New Atkins can bring to your diet. In this phase, you will gradually increase your carb intake, slowly adding variety to your diet in order to find your carb tolerance. The ongoing weight loss phase of New Atkins is all about re-introducing higher carb foods to your diet. You will see that you can now incorporate nuts, seeds, berries and certain cheeses into your low carb diet.  As you will discover, your experience in Phase 2 will probably have a big influence on what your New Atkins diet will become.  If you have been losing weight steadily so far and are getting close to your goal weight, then it’s time to progress to Phase 3. It could be that the foods you have brought back into your diet during Phase 2 are causing cravings, in which case it is best to limit these items or even cut them out completely and try a different food from the Carb Ladder. If this applies to you, it is likely that you have already established your personal carb balance, and as such you shouldn’t move onto Phase 3. Keep track of your weight to see if it stabilises, and at that point you can try to reintroduce those foods again. If this works and you find yourself around 10 pounds (4.5kg) from your goal weight, you are ready to move to Phase 3. more...

Dieting? Low - carb trumps low - fat for weight

Low-carbohydrate diets are better for losing weight and protecting the heart than low-fat diets, according to a new Tulane University study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine . After a year, the low-carb group lost an average of 7.7 pounds more than the low-fat group. The blood levels of certain fats that are predictors of heart disease risk also improved more in the low-carb group. The results challenge the perception that low-fat diets are always better for the heart, said lead author Dr. “Yet we found those on a low-carb diet had significantly greater decreases in estimated 10-year risk for heart disease after six and 12 months than the low-fat group.” While the low-carb dieters got 41 percent of their calories from fat, most were healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats like olive or canola oil. more...

Low - Fat, Low - Carb Diets Make No Weight - Loss Difference in

Note that this randomized trial of low-fat versus low-carbohydrate in nondiabetic women found that all diet types led to similar modest weight loss. Overweight and obese women lost about the same amount of weight regardless of whether they followed a low-fat or low-carbohydrate diet for 6 months, researchers said, although the study came with numerous limitations. Researchers assigned 245 nondiabetic women to one of three diets: a low fat, high carbohydrate diet; a lower carbohydrate and higher fat diet; or a different low-carb, high-fat diet that was rich in walnuts. more...

Two months after a low - carb diet

Two months after I started on a low-carb diet, plus taking in some saturated fats from natural meats, doing weight training twice a week, as well as 30 min Tabata-style training everyday during my 10day trip in Japan -I see a further drop in my body fats measurement. And I must emphasize it is LOW-carb diet – meaing that I do reward myself to yummy treats once a week and take in the ocassional wholemeal bread spread with butter. The result is a further 2% drop in total body fats – measured by the caliper test. And so I was advised to stay away from dairy and wheat for this month to see if I have some sort of allergy towards these two foods that is causing the stubborn fats from burning away. more...

President Taft lost 60 pounds on a low - carb diet - USA TODAY

Taft, the heaviest commander in chief and a yo-yo dieter, worked with doctors to lose weight. President Taft lost 60 pounds on a low-carb diet Taft, the heaviest commander in chief and a yo-yo dieter, worked with doctors to lose weight. President William Howard Taft, the country's heaviest commander in chief and a high-profile yo-yo dieter in his day, lost 60 pounds in the early 1900s on a low-carb diet with the help of a diet doctor. So in 1905, when Taft was serving as secretary of war, he hired London-based physician Nathaniel Yorke-Davies, the author of a popular diet book Foods for Fat: A Treatise on Corpulency and a Dietary for its Care, to supervise his weight-loss regimen, Levine says. For 10 years, Taft and the doctor exchanged letters about food intake, weight loss, digestive issues and even bowel movements. Taft weighed himself almost every day and once a week his secretary sent copies of the weight records to the doctor, she says. The physician spelled out exactly what Taft should eat and at what time of day. The diet included lots of lean meat, fish and vegetables without butter and gluten (wheat) biscuits, which Taft ordered from a bakery in London, Levine says. Taft would have needed about 3,600 calories a day to maintain his heavier weight so this diet would have cut out 1,500 to 1,600 calories a day, and his weight loss on that plan is what you'd expect, says obesity researcher Donna Ryan, professor emeritus at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. A big predictor of success is adherence, and you can tell from the completeness of his self-recorded weights that Taft was an adherent patient, she says. In fact, by the time, Taft was inaugurated as president in 1909, his weight was much higher (354 pounds) than his starting weight on the diet (314 pounds), Levine says. Taft, who was also the 10th Chief Justice of the United States, continued to struggle with his weight for years and worked with other doctors, Levine says. Taft was often interviewed in newspapers about his weight and discouraged people from fad diets, she says. more...

Final report : Two months of strict LCHF and ketone monitoring

Final Report: Two Months of Strict LCHF and Ketone Monitoring. Here is my final report following two months of a very strict LCHF diet , and daily measurements of four parameters: To get familiar with the experiment design, I recommend reading my first report . For results from the first month, have a look at my second report . Here’s the third and final one, discussing the second month. As you can see from the above graph, I took the opportunity to conduct a side experiment. I was on the Swedish archipelago “Koster” for the year’s lobster premiere, and simply had the same food as everyone else. So, what happens if you totally veer off the low carb lifestyle after a long period of strict LCHF? Here’s the answer: Here are the non-strict LCHF foodstuffs I consumed during the weekend of 28-30th September: The ketosis was gone. The morning after, I was at 0.3 and one day after that I was at 0.5, which means I was back in ketosis. I was happy with my weight and waistline, which I’ve kept for years with the more liberal LCHF diet I stick to. The biggest lesson I’ve learned during these two months is how much the effects of a strict LCHF diet can be intensified when taken to optimal ketosis. more...

Low - Carb Diet - The First Six Months

It's important at the start to remember that everyone is different with respect to weight loss, and you can't expect your experience to be the same as someone else's. The most important changes in your body are only somewhat related to weight loss . If any of these signs are out of whack and you have found the right amount of carbohydrate for you, they should start to change within a few weeks, and sometimes a few days. Much as we love to lose weight, these are the most important changes, and you should make note of them and celebrate. The other thing that will happen if you are on a very low-carb diet (under 50 or so grams of carbohydrate per day) is that your body will start to adapt to using fat for energy instead of carbohydrate. If you have a significant amount of weight to lose, by the end of the first month your rate of weight loss should stabilize (allowing for variations for women who are menstruating). At some point, there will be some slowing in the rate of weight loss, and you could experience stalls in your weight loss. At some point during this period you may experience what is known as "The End of the Honeymoon". (Changing your diet doesn't mean you can never have a favorite food again, by the way.) The most important thing you can do at this point is to squarely acknowledge what is going on. Other than dealing with the End of the Honeymoon (if it happens), you have one main job during the first six months: Convert your low-carb eating from being a "diet" to being "just the way you eat". Are your pantry and fridge stocked with low-carb foods you enjoy? more...

Low - carb and calories - The Blog of Michael R. Eades, M.D

But we’ve cut that out so we’re left with fat and protein as the secondary suspects. And the science shows very much that they do. The more I work at this and communicate with others on the same path, the more I’m convinced that it’s really not calories, but metabolism. It’s only when you stop losing weight and want to continue to lose that the calories become an issue. And thank you for the interesting response. I would say that if you cut the cheese and any other really high-caloric-density low-carb foods that your fat loss should pick up. One of the problems with it, is that if calories scientifically matter for weight loss, they matter for all people, and all diets. And I do think that this carb restriction contributes to the longevity. The main reason for this seems to be that you burn the fat that is in the muscle. Many thanks to you and all the readers for sharing. more...
