Extreme Weight Loss - Wikipedia, the free

Extreme Weight Loss. Extreme Weight Loss (originally titled Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition) is a television program from ABC in which individuals volunteer to receive training and lifestyle changes from trainer Chris Powell and his wife, Heidi Powell. The show is slightly based on the original concept of Extreme Makeover, where individuals receive life-changing makeovers. The show however has faced criticisms over the health implications of rapid weight loss and misleading claims that the fitness trainer stays 3 months with the dieters.[ citation needed ] [1] On September 20, 2010, Chris Powell was announced as the trainer for the show, renamed Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. The series officially premiered on May 30, 2011 and was the top summer launch for an ABC series debut since August 2009. [4] The third season, now renamed Extreme Weight Loss, [5] premiered on May 28, 2013. more...

The year before Pitcher auditioned for “Extreme Weight Loss,” he and Stosich went to hike the Y in Provo. Pitcher was only able to make it a quarter of the way up. Can A Reasonable Mentality Last Among Extreme Weight

The premise of "My Diet Is Better Than Yours" was disconcerting. Of course, this comes with caveats: often, contestants are berated for their lifestyles, shamed for their size, made to exercise to the point of throwing up, and given constant reminders of their morbidity, all for an audience of millions. Around the same time I heard about "My Diet Is Better Than Yours," news broke about Khloe Kardashian's upcoming E! It's important for people who want to lose weight to have the knowledge and resources to successfully do so - receiving them from highly produced shows where contestants' lives, exercise and food intake are all precisely monitored isn't the way to transmit that message. Contestants from "My Diet Is Better Than Yours" carry shovelfuls of sugar in a fitness challenge. Here's the premise of "My Diet Is Better Than Yours": five contestants are paired with trainers, each with a different food and fitness plan. Contestants are ranked based on percentage of weight lost that week and can choose whether or not they'd like to keep their trainer for the next week. It's a conceit that seems poised to remove any agency for the contestants themselves, to lash out when their weekly weight loss isn't the whopping 10 or 12 pounds we see on "Biggest Loser" instead of the one to two recommended by the National Institutes of Health . Though the contestants on "My Diet" are sometimes subjected to bizarre challenges (see: the sugar-shoveling in the above photo, or the "task-ercising" squats one woman is made to do while grocery shopping), it actually seems like a healthier setup - physically and mentally - for helping the average person reach their goals. Moreover, taking the pressure off the contestants actually seems to be a better move: there's no threat of elimination that could drive them to unhealthy practices or twisted alliances, sacrificing health for numbers on the scale. Though the show has its gimmicky moments (and, like "The Biggest Loser," weirdly makes its female contestants wear sports bras and tight shorts, while the men don baggy shirts and shorts), by and large, it seems like a reasonable answer to highly restrictive or extreme weight-loss measures that don't carry over to real-life practice . more...

Extreme weight loss : 5 key strategies

If you know Chris Hemsworth as the mighty Thor - at left in 2011 - his diminished size and scraggly face for the upcoming film "In the Heart of the Sea" might come as a shock. The left photo was snapped just a year earlier at a showing of "The Gambler." She credits diet and exercise for her loss of more than 100 pounds. And I finally said, 'Oh, for God's sake, stop worrying about it,' and it may be the best thing I've ever done," she said. The director of "Clerks" and other movies tweeted in June that he has lost 85 pounds. Matthew Lewis, who starred as the shy and unassuming Neville Longbottom in the "Harry Potter" movies, has grown into a strapping young man. Penn Jillette told People magazine there was no magic involved in his weight loss from 330 to 225 pounds. The performer, who is half of the illusionist act Penn & Teller, just changed his eating habits to shed 105 pounds and get his high blood pressure under control. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few years ago and said he changed his diet and shaped up in an attempt to get off some of his diabetes medication. Alley, a paid spokeswoman for Jenny Craig, used the weight loss program to slim down over the past year. Tom Arnold has lost about 90 pounds since his first child was born in 2013, and he was looking quite thin at the 2014 South by Southwest festival. more...

Why British TV Personality Katie Hopkins Gained and Lost

Why British TV Personality Katie Hopkins Gained and Lost Weight for TV. WATCH 'Fat and Back': Woman Gains Weight in Extreme Experiment. Hopkins, 39, gained nearly 50 pounds, hoping to turn around and quickly lose it, all while being filmed for the two-part special, "Fat and Back." “The reason I'm losing the weight is to prove how simple it is to lose weight if you really want to, and the only way I can do that is by becoming fat myself,” Hopkins says on the TLC special. American author, TV personality and transformation pro Chris Powell says that Hopkins’ weight experiment discounts too much. Hopkins’ journey to gain and lose the weight took six months and was something that even Hopkins concedes was not as easy as she had hoped. “I understand that when you are fat, you don’t want to put your trainers on and go running out the door because you think people will laugh at you.” “I know how hard it is to be fat and carry that weight around and I know no one wants to be fat by choice,” she says. The two-part special "Fat and Back" airs Sunday, Jan. more...
