This program is the best and one that I can see myself doing for life. This was also the first diet book I bought for my Kindle app, and I found it very difficult to move back and forth in the book, even with bookmarks. Since starting the DASH diet in September of this year my husband and I have both experienced slow, steady weight loss. The description and cover of this book are misleading. This is NOT the same Dash Diet that U. And why is it the ORIGINAL Dash Diet that has won the awards and not this one? Look, I'm not a dietician and I really don't know if this version is better than the original Dash Diet, but I take issue with it claiming to be something that it is not. I have had some experience with this diet before the Dr Oz spin. I bought both this book and the cookbook by the same author. The concept of this diet is not new, but the book lays it out as a dietary regimen with scientific backing and in way that makes it seem sustainable by an average person.

Don’t trust the reviews alone, these can be bought or fabricated, so before you buy, do yourself a favor and check how long they’ve been in business. Mostly because the product does not work, and the support group would expose that. Whether you like social media, or not, it is a strong signal that the business is legitimate. Scams might put on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter icons on their website, but you really need to take the time, and check these pages out for yourself. You want to look not only for the number of followers on these social accounts, but also pay attention to the type of content is being posted, how often, and user engagement. Is it a picture of before and after of the people that may or may not have used the product?

LOVE this - am struggling with a few health issues and in November 2012, in searching on Google, sort of fell upon information on the DASH Diet. I should add the caveat that this book is clearly not aimed at me because I already eat lots of non-starchy vegetables and lean protein and healthy fats. So the things that book recommends that I don't (and won't) eat are: Take the word DIET out of this book because it has to be a lifestyle change. Low-carb, lots of veggies and eventually fruits - even alcohol (either as a grain - beer, Take the word DIET out of this book because it has to be a lifestyle change. This book is more fad diet than anything else, which I might have judged from the cover, if I was that type of person. 4 the author says that the earlier DASH plan recommended far more protein and carbs. Helpful overview of the DASH diet- clear and straightforward read. But overall the basics are good and effective. This book concentrates on weight-loss aspects of the diet, and I've lost 16 pounds, so I'll keep the book around for the sake of the recipes included in it. I read in the news that the DASH diet was supposed to be THE top-rated diet by experts, so I took a closer look with this book. I don't think this is the same as the DASH diet that was developed by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. This book is not that diet. It appears to be a healthy way to lose weight with all the advantages of The Atkins Plan and The Mediterranean Diet.

But if you lose weight with a particular intervention (like for instance avoiding dessert, potatoes and grains) and then you stop that intervention, whatever weight you lost consequent to that intervention is likely to come back. The DASH diet is based on NIH studies that examined three dietary plans and their results. The DASH diet reduced systolic blood pressure by 6 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure by 3 mm Hg in patients with high normal blood pressure (formerly called "pre-hypertension"). The DASH diet was further tested and developed in the Optimal Macronutrient Intake Trial for Heart Health ( Omni Heart diet ).  The initial DASH study was begun in August 1993 and ended in July 1997. Two experimental diets were selected for the DASH study and compared with each other, and with a third: the control diet. The DASH trial showed that dietary patterns can and do affect blood pressure in the high normal BP to moderately hypertensive adult population (systolic < 180 mm Hg & diastolic of 80 to 95 mm Hg).  Respectively, the DASH or “combination” diet lowered blood pressures by an average of 5.5 and 3.0 mm Hg for systolic and diastolic, compared with the control diet. The minority portion of the study sample and the hypertensive portion both showed the largest reductions in blood pressure from the combination diet against the control diet.  The fruits-and-vegetables diet was also successful, although it produced more modest reductions compared with the control diet (2.8 mm Hg systolic and 1.1 mm Hg diastolic).  In the subjects with and without hypertension, the combination diet effectively reduced blood pressure more than the fruits-and-vegetables diet or the control diet did. The DASH diet was the same as in the previous DASH study. The DASH-Sodium study found that reductions in sodium intake produced significantly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressures in both the control and DASH diets. Study results indicate that the quantity of dietary sodium in the control diet was twice as powerful in its effect on blood pressure as it was in the DASH diet. The DASH diet and the control diet at the lower salt levels were both successful in lowering blood pressure, but the largest reductions in blood pressure were obtained by eating a combination of these two (i.e., a lower-salt version of the DASH diet).

I began this diet 2 weeks ago and I have had high blood pressure since I was about 20. Actually the principles of this, similar to the Flat Belly Diet, are some of the most proven philosophies and largest studies of obesity that make it up in recent years. Monounsaturated fats such as the nuts and seeds actually help you lose weight if part of your daily diet but within the desired 1600 calorie range. I'd like to see monounsaturated fats play actually a larger part because the "good fats", for me and in so many studies, will be healthy in this calorie range even at more servings (but not exceeding the calorie range) but they know more than me and they are in there and this can give you YEARS longer and very healthy ones at that. The Dash Diet is not a "Diet" but more of a Food Plan. We have been doing the Dash for a month now and are very pleased. The writing and organization of the diet book is good. The diet itself is great, and it delivers exactly what it promises - Lowering of blood pressure, and loss of weight. This diet really works, and used with the Supertracker.org website is fairly easy to follow. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is ready to enjoy wholesome food and reap the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. I completely believe in the DASH diet and now that I am doing it I know that I am going to stick to this for the rest of my life. Now that I’ve been doing it for quite some time now, I feel like I Have the hang of it and it’s quite a good thing to follow. I like all that I have learned to be able to stick to the dash diet the majority of the time (I can forgive myself for slipping now and again) but it took quite some time to learn it all. The Dash diet is pretty incredible in the amount that it teaches you about food. I have learned more about what I should be eating and the impact of food on my body since I started this diet than I had for the whole rest of my life until that point.
