You can follow a high-protein and low-carb diet plan even on a budget by planning ahead and buying in bulk. Include eggs in your daily high-protein, low-carb plan. You can add variety to your meal plan by varying your cooking method: make fried eggs, scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs or an omelet. Canned fish makes a healthy and cheap protein option for your high-protein low-carb lunches. If you want to eat healthier and stay within your budget, make your own. Buy olive oil and balsamic vinegar in bulk and just drizzle a bit of each on your salad. The key to sticking to your high-protein, low-carb diet plan for dinner is to combine any protein with non-starchy vegetables. Don't be fussy - pick whatever protein is on sale that week when building your daily meal plan. Simply accompany your dinner with any non-starchy vegetables on sale or visit your farmer market to get more affordable seasonal and local vegetables. Many popular high-protein, low-carb snacks, such as nuts, low-carb bars and protein bars, can be expensive. Buy large packages of cheese to save and freeze some if you have too much.
A diet that is healthy, tasty, and cheap can feel like an unattainable trifecta—especially if you want to go cheap cheap. But balancing your weight and your wallet is possible, as economist Mark Bonica, Ph. He recruited Story to provide nutritional counsel and support, and the two of them blogged daily about the experience (you can check out the blog here ). After a 30-day trial of eating on $3 a day (calculated by adding up the price-per-ounce of everything Bonica consumed and cooked with), he lost 10 pounds—and lowered his cholesterol and fasting glucose levels, which got Bonica out of pre-diabetic range. First things first: Bonica and Story didn't develop a magical diet that you can copy to the letter. Luckily, if you want to lose weight on a budget, his $3-a-day diet is full of guidelines you can steal for yourself—provided you're willing to do your own food prep. Bonica averaged 1,700 calories a day (you can get a ballpark estimate of your own daily caloric needs here ) and exercised at least 15 days out of the month. As for what he was eating and what you should imitate: "A lot of it is just simplifying your meals and being creative with what you can buy," says Story. She also recommends stocking up on frozen vegetables and buying in bulk whenever you can. When it comes down to it, the preparation and attention it takes to adhere to a strict budget might be all you need to lose weight—so long as you stick to some basic healthy guidelines in the process, like watching your calorie and fat intakes . It could leave your wallet heavier and you lighter.

Healthy Eating on a Budget – Shopping List and Meal Plan. I often hear from people about how expensive it is to have a healthy diet on a budget and my feelings on this are mixed. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices for the things we want, so if you do find healthy eating is more expensive, try cutting back in other areas so you can eat better. To follow on from this, last week I kept track of everything I bought with the budget we had for the week and what I made with that food. We could have had a healthy diet for the week on less money than I spent, but it would have relied on us eating mostly the same things throughout the week and not overly enjoying the meals. Luckily, we are in the position that although we are on a budget, it is not so strict that we have to eat the same dinner 5 times in the week. If you are on a stricter budget, cut out meat completely and eat more bean based meals and have more pasta dishes – that will bring the cost down. It is difficult to make this budget shopping list and meal plan as everyone shops at different places, and people are from different parts of the world, so not everything is going to cost the same. This isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list, but more a guide to show you what I buy and what I make on the budget I have. I don’t include toiletries as we get some much of that stuff for Christmas and birthdays and also vouchers for places where we can buy that stuff, that we don’t have to buy any from our shopping budget.
We’re hoping to show that a plant based diet can be done without breaking the bank and we really hope it works out for you. Daily value nutritional info for the 1 cup of chickpeas: 21% Calcium, 55%, Vitamin B 6, 13% Vitamin C, 78% Protein, 50% Potassium. I brought a glass tupperware with all the ingredients to work and threw it in the microwave for two minutes. Daily value nutritional facts for 1 cup soy milk (the kind I used): 35% Vitamin D, 30% Calcium, 20% Vitamin A, 7 G Protein. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook about 15 minutes. Click the link and follow the recipe. Also, if you want to make the meal and are skipping the potatoes, just use the rice and beans as filling. For the tacos (feeding three people): I boiled five peeled and chopped russet potatoes. And with the Bean Dip , I only used 1/3 of an onion. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this challenge. Hi Toni, much love and thanks to you for this!
