Army Wives ‘ classified Season 7 battle plan has leaked, and if you’re a fan of the show, believe me when I tell you it will have you standing at attention. “The first two [episodes] will be very emotional, and it will confirm that Claudia Joy is no longer among the living,” he says. “It’s been very wrenching for us to write, and I think it will be very wrenching for the audience to go through. “Kim and Claudia Joy have been the rock upon which we based the show,” the EP continues. “But we [have to] continue to move forward and keep the show fresh and unpredictable.” “Who survives the cliffhanger and who doesn’t is going to provide a lot of the juice of the first two hours.” NEW SETTING | The common thread tying the new (and some of the existing) wives together is that their “husbands all serve in the same platoon that’s stationed in an outpost in Afghanistan,” explains Melvoin, who drew inspiration for the new setting from the acclaimed 2010 war documentary Restrepo. “The central conceit of the show is friendship that transcends rank [featuring] women from different walks of life and with very different outlooks. But it’s not going to be like you just flip the page and suddenly you’re looking at a different show… It’s the same show with some fresh new colors.” In the meantime, hit the comments with your insta-reaction to the show’s mini-reboot and your eulogies for poor Claudia Joy.

Before Weight: 230 pounds. How I Gained It: I was heavy as a child and into adulthood from poor eating habits. The crazy thing is I was very active with sports. When I went in for the consultation, the doctor told me I was considered morbidly obese and would need to lose at least 70 pounds to be considered for the procedure. How I Lost It: It was early 2010, and I had received a Wi Fi game console the previous Christmas. By the end of that summer, someone stopped me and said, "Your clothes are falling off of you." I hadn't even noticed. People see me now and see my before pictures and are amazed. There are times when I'm still not 100 percent comfortable with my body or the attention, but I've learned to embrace and love it all! After Weight: 143 pounds. Send it to us at [email protected] and you could be featured in our I Lost Weight series!
The last time I spoke with him was on Father’s Day, June 20, 2010. So I want to talk with you instead about Eddie – the type of person – man, husband, father – he was, and the meaning his life gave to me. He was the guy that everyone knew and loved. Eddie was friendly to everyone and would give the shirt off his back to whoever needed it. Although timing wasn’t on our side (he was deploying a few months later), and I was not looking for love, I couldn’t deny the connection we shared. For the first year of our relationship, he was deployed, and we communicated mainly through letters. Eddie was energetic and had trouble sitting still. We were on a waiting list for a larger house on base, and it turned out, the one that was available was just five houses down from the one we were living in. I felt like it was too much to put on him, so I said we would decline the offer and wait for the next house. But he was ready for the challenge and even excited. He had a talent for making others smile and laugh and was a true friend to those in his life. Eddie Loredo was one heck of a man, a man worth celebrating this and every June.
An Army Doc: The Paleo Diet and Cross Fit Reversed My Pre-Diabetes. In addition to my duties as a physician, I am a soldier, and must adhere to the Army’s standards for physical fitness. I was stronger and more fit than I’d ever been, my BMI was 23, and I had no family history of diabetes. My research pointed to a potential cause of my prediabetes — the statin medication I started taking for my cholesterol 10 years ago, at a time when the data on a link between statins and diabetes was unknown. Back in the early 2000s, we saw only great benefits to statin use , and didn’t know anything about the diabetes risk. Paleo Diet and Cross Fit. In addition to researching medication side effects, I also researched exercise and diet , knowing the major role they play in improving health and reversing prediabetes. If I’m talking to my patients about healthy lifestyle choices, especially about nutrition and exercise, I’d better be walking the talk. Being a Cross Fit fanatic, I heard about the l ow-carb Paleo diet , which is popular in the Cross Fit community. The dramatic results in such a short time took me by surprise, and I began reviewing the medical literature for evidence behind Paleo and other low-carbohydrate diets. For example, both the 2014 Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes published by the American Diabetes Association and a recent review article in the Nutrition journal support low-carb nutrition therapy as an option for type 2 diabetics. However, just like the statin and diabetes link, I believe that the research will continue to show that a low-carb diet is safe and effective for type 2 diabetics. It’s more usual for doctors to choose a specialty right after residency, but the Army gave me the flexibility to pursue my interest in helping Soldiers stay healthy and achieve greater fitness.
Those female rangers , who became the first two women to graduate from the Army’s Elite Ranger School, helped the male rangers finish the brutal training camp. History was made when female rangers — Lieutenant Shaye Haver and Captain Kristen Griest — completed one of the most difficult obstacles in military training. But the first female rangers not only survived the brutal camp, in an unlikely twist, they helped some of their male colleagues finish. The women were praised by some of the men who recently completed the course and thanked them for pushing them forward when all they wanted to do was give up. Shaye was the only one to take that weight off me.” Zachary Hagner — who was a skeptic that the female rangers could complete the course — received help from Griest, the only one who came to his aid. Haver and Greist won hearts along the way and convinced the men that it doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman, with all the weight they had to carry, any help was welcome. The new female rangers not only earned the respect of their fellow male rangers, but that of commanding officers who trained them.
Returning troops often look forward to the things they'll be gaining when they come home; things like family, friends and home-cooked meals. Specifically, his wife, Misty, had secretly shed more than 100 pounds since he last saw her. According to CNN, the transformation took Misty a full 12 months, during which time she says she swapped junk food for vegetables, cut the soda, and started keeping an eye on her portions. "I would eat when I was bored," Misty told CNN of her former habits . Misty says keeping her progress a secret was as simple as keeping pictures off Facebook.
The following testimonial is from a former military spouse and mother of three young children. By the age of eight, I was already over weight, embarrassed and often sad. By the time he left for his first deployment, I was determined to do something about my weight - once again. I joined a weight loss program, which did help and I lost some weight, but it was short lived. I then found out I was pregnant with our first child and I really took the saying "eating for 2" literally - it was my ticket to eat guilt free! At this point I gave in and the weight battle was lost. I knew I needed something fast and heavy duty - the wedding was only 44 days away! It was during the summer so I had the three kids home with me. Sometimes after I worked out I felt like I was going to puke it was so hard or as Stew says "you just TRIED hard - so good job.- you did it not me!" I was so sore sometimes that the baby couldn't even sit on my lap, but I was determined and it became addicting. It was now my job, no, more than that; it was the start of my new life! I personally love the weight loss but I love how strong and healthy I feel even more. But, Stew tells me that it was me, not him getting him to do the workouts every day. Stew Smith is a former Navy SEAL and fitness author certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
She focused on healthy eating during her weight loss. She went to his senior prom; he went to her junior and senior proms. She weighed about 260 pounds when he left, and less than 155 pounds when he returned. "I just sat in bed one night and was like, 'I can do this,'" she said. Before she became pregnant with her daughter, Nevaeh, she took diet pills and lost 60 pounds. But all that - and more - came back after she stopped taking the pills. At her heaviest, she weighed around 300 pounds. She wanted to surprise her husband, and work toward a better life for herself and her family. She stopped drinking soda, and tried to limit her liquids to water and coffee. It got to the point where, if she drank a diet soda, it made her so thirsty that she didn't even want it. When she saw him at the airport, Misty Shaffer didn't know what to say or do. It was the first time he had ever picked her up. Before, he hadn't been able to lift her off the ground even a little, she said. When her husband left she was a size 22 to 24; now she can wear a women's size 6.
